Summary of Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer undertakes pivotal mechanical engineering design responsibilities utilizing CAD tools within the engineering team. Beyond the design facets inherent to this role, the Senior Mechanical Engineer assumes the critical responsibility of specifying and procuring mechanical hardware. Integral to this position, they engage collaboratively with other technical and managerial team members, providing comprehensive reports on technical progress.

Essential Duties

  • Designing parts and assemblies using Solidworks or similar CAD tools.
  • Drafting drawings for release to production.
  • Working with vendors to procure mechanical hardware.
  • Presenting mechanical design/concepts at reviews to internal and external audiences.
  • Providing mechanical support for prototype assembly integration and testing 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Well-versed in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools. 
  • Experience with Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards such as ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience working with mechanical component suppliers and delivery of hardware.

  • Strong interpersonal skills which positively benefit interaction with internal and external clientele; Comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Exceptional presentation skills, both written and verbal; ability to adapt communication style for varying audiences to explain needs and means with clarity and understanding; comfortable giving technical presentations to both internal and external audiences. 
  • Good comprehension and communication skills, with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through verbal communication; 
  • Strong time management skills; Must be detail-oriented, able to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; Effectively self-manages to accomplish short-term and long-term goals or tasks. 
  • Appropriate level of administrative and computer use experience and skills. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and self-control.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate safely in the workplace, with experience holding themselves accountable to safety standards.
  • Good decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and implement the best solution to problems or challenges.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated to keeping up to date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related work environment is required. Eight years preferred.
  • Experience with the following software tools required:  SolidWorks, ANSYS analysis tools, and MS Office tools (Excel, PPT, Word).

  • Must be able to operate in a laboratory environment, working in and around critical hardware.
